This section comprehensively addresses every aspect of the Maths Challenge that requires your attention.
Before delving further, take note that IMC administers two distinct Maths Challenges. Firstly, there’s the Regular 3-Round Challenge, detailed below on this page. The second is the Online Simulated Maths Challenge (OSMC), a Single Round event exclusively held for Selected Schools worldwide. Details regarding the OSMC can be accessed here. It’s important to highlight that OSMC participation is by invitation only and limited to students from these designated schools. If your school has communicated its selection and provided you with the necessary information, you’re eligible to apply for the OSMC.
For those seeking more information about the 3-Round Maths Challenge, read on.
There are 3 rounds in this Challenge. Each round has the same test format. However, the eligibility for each round varies.
Round 1 – If you are a student from Grade 1 -12 of any school, then that’s it! You are eligible. You need to register, enrol for the Challenge and take the online proctored exam as per the schedule.
Round 2 – To be eligible for Round 2, you need to score a minimum of 50%ile in Round 1. This means you need to score better than half of the candidates in your grade to progress to Round 2.
Round 3 – This is the final round and to be eligible, you need to rank in the top 30% among all the students of your grade who participated in Round 2.
Grade selection is a personal decision that parents must make with certain guidelines. If your child has completed at least 6 months of schooling in the current grade by June 1, 2024, you are permitted to choose that grade for the exams. Additionally, you have the option to choose a grade one level lower than the current grade.
However, for children who have spent less than 6 months in a particular grade, it is highly recommended to enrol them in a grade one lower than their current grade. This ensures that the child has covered the curriculum in school before taking the test. Parents are free to opt for the current grade if they wish to.
It’s crucial to note that the final certificate will be based on the grade of the exam taken.
In both cases, the grade displayed on the student portal should always reflect the current grade. The grade you pick when enrolling on the Fees page may change based on the information provided above.
For students following the UK curriculum, Year 1 corresponds to Grade 1, Year 2 aligns with Grade 2, and so forth. Years 12 and 13 correspond with Grade 12.

The IMC guarantees a precise score report that will effectively showcase your child’s genuine capabilities and pinpoint their strengths and areas for improvement. Following each round, the IMC Academic Committee will validate student scores and share the score report with parents as per the schedule.
The score report is available in two formats; the Basic Score Report(BSR) and the Enhanced Score Report (ESR). Parents have a choice to opt for any of the 2 Reports.
Click here to check out a sample Basic Score Report.
While the BSR helps you understand your child’s performance v/s the TEST, the ESR does that and much more. It helps you understand your child’s performance
In other words, the ESR will be the ultimate report of your kid’s performance.

A trustworthy test relies on a syllabus that’s accurate and carefully planned. The IMC Academic Committee has meticulously crafted the syllabus and exams in line with the latest curriculum. We understand that different countries follow different educational boards, but our academic team has worked hard to ensure fairness throughout the Challenge.
The Syllabus describes the exam curriculum in depth which will help you prepare your child for the test. You may observe that the content we cover is exhaustive, yet is well within the reach of the student. The levels of questions are relatively easier than traditional math tests and students can compete in the test without high-level advanced training.
We’re not here to replace your child’s teachers; we have confidence in their teaching abilities. We strongly believe in a consistent approach to learning, avoiding any confusion from different teaching methods. As your child gains a solid understanding of math concepts in school, we’re here to complement their learning with a comprehensive set of fully solved Test Practice Papers (10 in total). These practice papers are designed to closely resemble the Maths Challenge. You don’t need to worry about our explanations – our subject experts break down the basics in a simple and logical manner, helping students become truly comfortable with the topics. The knowledge gained here will inevitably contribute to their success in their regular school studies as well. You can opt for the Test Practice Package of 10 fully solved Test papers when you register at the IMC.
Moreover, you have the option to join the EXP course. This program provides you with an extra set of 7 practice papers, complete with answer keys. These papers feature questions from the 2022 Challenge. We suggest considering enrollment in the EXP course once your child has completed all the Test Practice Papers.

Ahead of the exam, we provide you with a comprehensive set of instructions that your child should follow on the test day. For our younger participants (grades 1-6), we permit parents/guardians/caregivers to assist them during the login process, ensuring a seamless start. After the verification stage and right before the ‘Start Test’ command, we kindly request that your child be given space to continue independently. Our aim is to offer a test environment that is both secure and convenient.
If your child successfully advances through the first and second rounds, there won’t be immediate prizes, but they will carry a heightened sense of self-confidence into the next stage. Students ranking within the top 20% in Round 3 are deemed winners of the Challenge.
If your child ranks among the top 20% of students in their grade during Round 3 but not within the top 5%, they earn the title of International Maths Challenge Elitist. Our Elitists are entitled to the International Maths Challenge Elitist merchandise, which is sent to their residence, no matter where you reside in the world. This merchandise package encompasses T-Shirts, Certificates, and Medals that correspond to the designation.
Should your child secure a top 5% ranking in Round 3, relative to other candidates in their grade, they are granted the prestigious title of International Maths Challenge Champion. Our Champions are eligible to receive the International Maths Challenge Champion merchandise, including T-Shirts, Certificates, and Medals that align with the achievement. Depending on your child’s location, shipping charges may apply for the dispatch of physical merchandise.
While the merchandise is a gesture from IMC’s side, students often receive a myriad of accolades from their schools as well. The majority of our students receive their IMC certificates during a school assembly. Many of our winning students are featured in school newsletters and on websites, substantially boosting their confidence. These psychological boosts serve as motivation for students to put in greater effort and strive for higher accomplishments.
